Event Details

In light of the unprecedented catastrophe caused by Tuesday's earthquake in Haiti, this event will now be a benefit to raise funds for the many people affected by the disaster. 100% of proceeds from registration will go to Yéle Haiti, an organization founded by Wyclef Jean to build global awareness for Haiti while helping to transform the country through programs in education, sports, the arts and environment. Culture & Cocktails: An Evening with ADC
Culture & Cocktails is our premiere event showcasing the various cultures of Africa and its Diaspora through music, dance storytelling and fashion. The purpose of the program is to educate our members about the African Diaspora's rich cultures and to foster a greater understanding and appreciation of our diverse roots by featuring artists from different regions in the Diaspora. Join us for an evening of cultural exchange and entertainment. Register early—our past events have been standing room only!

SHAKAMA 
Born in the Ivory Coast, Shakama is a songwriter with a message. Her lyrics focus on improving life for the less fortunate. She reaches out to people of all cultures with music that is bold, ethnic, organic, and funky. Her songs call for personal growth and spiritual progress through physical, spiritual and mental development. Though her music continues to evolve, it is still rooted in the desire for social justice.

ERNESTO LARA
Born in the Dominican Republic, and raised in New York, Kenya, and the Middle East, Ernesto Lara's wide range of life experiences is in his artistry—he travels through rhythm and speech. Lara promotes social awareness and responsibility in his lyrics. He celebrates the journey that Hiphop music has made as "a craft that blends our spirit, our lyrics." His debut album, "Reflection" stands as an honest contribution to HipHop culture.

AYANNA GREGORY
For this soul singer, songwriter, and agent of change, music is more than entertainment; it is her mission. While growing up as the daughter of celebrated Comedian and Human Rights Activist Dick Gregory, Ayanna was blessed with the opportunity to interact with such mega talents as Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. Raised with a deep awareness and concern for human rights, Ayanna’s musical roots are steeped in the struggle of the “Freedom Movement”. Ayanna continues to grow and etch out her place in the entertainment world.  As an activist, Ayanna will continue to be a musical messenger for the planet.

JABBA
Jabba was recently nominated for an African Grammy and is winner of the Best Video Award at the MTV Africa Awards. He has shared the stage with the likes of Will Downing, Angelique Kidjo and Wyclef Jean. Jabba has received numerous awards and recognition for his efforts to combat AIDS, promote education and literacy, and other community conscious activities, including an invitation by Oprah to lecture to students at her Leadership Academy for Girls. Jabba will be joining us courtesy of Bloombars. BloomBars is a non-profit arts organization that works to inspire and unite communities through the arts while nurturing artists committed to serving the community. Redefining the perception of a bar, BloomBars does not serve or allow alcohol and is open to all ages.
